A Case of Paratyphoid with Diarrhea as the Only Symptom in a 5 Year Old Boy from Southern Part of India

Paratyphoid fever is a systemic bacterial infection caused by bacteria Salmonella paratyphi serovars A, B, or C. It most associated with travel to endemic areas but can occur sporadically in non-endemic areas. While the disease more commonly seen adults, it children, and presentation be variable. clinically difficult differentiate Typhoid from without isolation of organism. We present case 5-year-old boy, Telangana state South India, who presented watery diarrhea 8 10 episodes per day abdominal discomfort for 5 days. At child had some dehydration very poor oral intake. Child did not respond standard acute gastroenteritis management continued have persistent loose stools. Routine blood investigations, urine stool microscopy revealed normal study. Further evaluation second week illness on culture, started respondwithsensitive antibiotic cefotaximeinjections after 3 days starting. However other classical symptoms paratyphi, such as fever, vomiting, rose spots. Other investigations like culture were negative. This highlights importance considering paratyphoid potential cause diarrhea, even young prompt diagnosis treatment appropriate antibiotics, especially absence clinical laboratory findings.
